NPG intend to undertake a research project to establish a simple, practical method for estimating transfer potentials between High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) electrodes, which will account for their electrode arrangements, proximity to each other and local soil conditions.
The project has specified the following aims and objectives:

  • The aim is to develop new techniques to assess the impact of lower voltage earth electrodes on higher voltage hot zones and to measure the resistance of distribution substation earth systems
  • To better understand the interaction between HV and LV earth systems under HV fault conditions when the electrodes are not physically connected together.
