EA Technology (EATL) has recently completed work on producing Condition
Based Risk Management (CBRM) models for Distributed Substations (DSS)
and wood pole Overhead Line (OHL). This applies health index analysis
and CBRM on all of Northern Powergrid's wood pole overhead lines and
distribution substations. The methodology was developed for a sample
population during stage one and implemented in a software tool has
identified a concern with the younger aged assets which, although in poor
condition, appear far lower down in the prioritised list than we think they
This additional work will enable the project as a whole to achieve
the original goals set out. That is, it will provide a quantifiable and risk
based approach to capital expenditure investment through current and projected
condition and risk, based upon current and historical condition and an
assessment of the consequences of failure associated with particular
wood pole OHLs and DSS assets.
EATL will apply a health index analysis on all of Northern Powergrid's OHLs and DSS, which includes both electrical and associated civil assets. Specifically, CBRM techniques will be applied to Yorkshire and Northeast assets within these categories.
