Introduction:
As the number of windfarms and the size of individual turbine blades increase, there is increasing potential for interactions between the turbines and our overhead lines. At present, National Grid does not have a policy regarding proximity.
Objectives:
A literature review on the potential impact of wind turbines on overhead lines will identify mechanisms for potential damage to high voltage overhead lines from wind turbines (both direct physical damage and indirect wind-induced damage), concluding in a report containing an initial assessment of the likelihood of any of these mechanisms actually causing damage to overhead lines, and a proposal for testing (if required).
