Health and Safety
This programme addresses issues relating to earthing – a subject
that has a major importance in ensuring safety of people (National
Grid staff and the general public) who are in proximity to high voltage
assets. The issues addressed within the programme are the use of
portable primary earths, the lack of transient high frequency
measurements on substation earthing systems during switching
operations, surge arrester operation or during the flow of fault current
in practice and finally an assessment of the risk of rise of earth
potential to inform the risk assessment process for mitigation of
ROEP near high voltage assets.
To gain an understanding of how substation PPEs
perform over extended application periods and declare a
maximum continuous current rating of substation PPEs
under induced current conditions.
