Low Carbon Generation
Estimated Expenditure:
£1,258,000.00
Introduction:
Embedded generation, and in particular wind energy, covers a power range from a few hundred Watts to 1000s of Megawatts. This project is concerned with the parallel connection of the electrical outputs of wind turbines and the subsequent grid interfacing. The proposed unidirectional DC current link approach involves high power electronics and AC grid interfacing. The novel approach is applicable from the few kW level to GWs.
Objectives:
The objective is to research a unidirectional DC current link system capable of reliably parallel connecting any number of wind energy electrical sources and transporting that energy as DC to a single DC to AC grid interface converter, which can be based on existing reliable HVDC technology.
