Introduction:
SPT is currently undertaking two projects to improve the visibility of the transmission network in readiness for the 2020 reinforcement programme. One project looks to provide essential data on the network harmonics that are required to be Grid Code compliant and is now required to the design of HVDC filters. The second project is the monitoring of several generation sites in England and Scotland that have been identified as being at risk to Sub-Synchronous Resonance (SSR) as a result of the proposed series compensation schemes on the Anglo-Scottish border.
Objectives:
The aims of this project are to enhance both projects using advanced hardware / software solutions to:
Automatically accumulate process and analyse the harmonic data to create useful system harmonic information
To advance the design of a network fault recorder to accommodate SSR detection as a standard feature in readiness of the series compensation being added to the network.
