High Voltage Technology
Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) are required for secondary substation automation and telecontrol, powered by two integral valve regulated lead acid batteries. The batteries have been subjected to high ambient temperature due to the heat emitted from electronic components within the RTU and radiated heat from the secondary power transformer, when located within the substation building. Such temperature excursions can have a detrimental effect on battery life. This project seeks to address this issue to ensure that battery longevity is realised.
The project aims to develop a battery air conditioning solution to smooth out the temperature variation and keep the battery ambient temperature within 20°C.
