Introduction:
Development of a Dynamic Overhead Line (OHL) Rating System for the Orkney Active Network Management (ANM).
Objectives:
Dynamic Line ratings use real time weather and conductor temperature measurements to generate a real time rating for OHLs. This system could decrease constraints applied to renewable generators or facilitate the connection of additional generation. This project will have two work streams. One is the implementation of a conventional dynamic line rating scheme for determining the line rating for a single circuit. The second is the development of a thermal state estimation tool, which uses a similar process to calculate ratings but employs a thermal network simulation to determine ratings for large sections of networks.
